Does GAR give grants to individuals?
GAR cannot award grants to individuals. It can only award grants to organizations that have been ruled tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tax-exempt organizations not recognized as a 501(c)(3) may use an appropriate fiscal sponsor with adequate accounting procedures.
Does GAR meet with potential applicants to discuss their project or proposal?
GAR does not typically meet with potential applicants until a formal full application is submitted. The best way to determine if you should submit a full grant application is to complete our
Letter of Inquiry. This process allows GAR staff to determine if your project fits the Foundation´s funding priorities, and saves you time by providing minimum information while still presenting your concept.
How often can my organization apply for a grant from GAR?
Organizations may submit no more than one application to the Foundation in any single calendar year.
What is GAR´s geographical area of giving?
Primary consideration is given to organizations located in Summit County, Ohio. Organizations located in Cuyahoga, Medina, Portage, Stark, and Wayne counties are given secondary consideration, and only when they can demonstrate substantial support from their own communities. For more information about GAR´s funding priorities, please see Criteria for Selection.
